SUBJECT
Title
Hold a discussion and appoint a Chairperson for the Hotel Occupancy Tax Committee.
Body

BACKGROUND

On December 16, 1975, the Denton City Council adopted Ordinance No. 75-53, amending Chapter 23 of the Code of Ordinances by adding Article I entitled "Hotel Occupancy Tax" which provides for the collection of a hotel occupancy tax.

By consensus of the Denton City Council at their work session of September 20, 1994, three representatives of the Denton City Council have served annually on a Hotel Occupancy Tax Fund Committee to monitor allocation and use of hotel occupancy funds.

On June 16, 2009, the Denton City Council re-established a standing Hotel Occupancy Tax Fund Committee to be comprised of three (3) members of the City Council to be appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council (Resolution R2009-015). Under Section 2B of that resolution, Council determined that "The presiding officer of the Committee shall be chosen annually by the Committee". The purpose of this item is to allow the Committee an opportunity to consider nominations for the Chair position.

STRATEGIC PLAN RELATIONSHIP

The foundation for the plan is the five long-term Key Focus Areas (KFA): Organizational Excellence; Public Infrastructure; Economic Development; Safe, Livable, and Family-Friendly Community; and Sustainability and Environmental Stewardship. While individual items may support multiple KFAs, this specific City Council agenda item contributes most directly to the following KFA and goal:

Related Key Focus Area: Organizational Excellence
