Receive a report, hold a discussion, and give staff direction regarding the Denton Public Library's annual report for FY 2015-2016, the new 2017-2020 Strategic Plan, and the future direction of library operations for the City of Denton.

BACKGROUND
Each year, the Denton Public Library creates an annual report for the public in order to foster transparency in government and promote library services to the community. This brief report gives an accounting of pertinent statistics, measures, and some of the activity that takes place within the library department. During this work session, staff will review the annual report with video component and introduce the new 2020 Strategic Plan.
The Library Annual Report for 2015-16 highlights staff accomplishments alongside standard library measures. Attendance at library programs increased significantly, while visits to the library remained steady. This suggests that customers are becoming more intentional library users, perhaps influenced by an increased community presence such as the new dpl2go program.
The new 2020 Strategic Plan not only meets requirements for accreditation by the Texas State Library, it outlines a continuing emphasis in three areas of focus: Education, Community and Resources. The plan includes two additional "Big Ideas" that introduce options for library service in the near future such as a functioning municipal collection and a stand-alone children's library.
PRIOR ACTION/REVIEW (Council, Boards, Commissions)
The Denton Public Library Board will be presented with the annual report for FY 2015-16 and the new 2020 Strategic Plan at the February13th regular meeting.
