Consider approval of a resolution adopting the City of Denton Public Art Master Plan for the City of Denton, TX; and providing an effective date. The Public Art Committee recommends approval (7-0).

BACKGROUND
The City of Denton contracted Margaret Chalfant of Chalfant Consulting to develop a data-driven Public Art Master Plan. Meetings were held with focus groups, stakeholders, civic organizations; the Denton Parks Foundation, Public Art Committee, Convention and Visitor's Bureau, and the Parks, Recreation and Beautification Board. The online survey questionnaire solicited citizen input from September 15 through November 30, 2016, and elicited a total of 1,672 responses.

RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends adoption of the Public Art Master Plan consistent with the Public Art Committee's unanimous vote in support.

PRIOR REVIEW
July 26, 2016: Work Session presentation to City Council. Emerson Vorel, Director of Parks and Recreation, shared the historical background regarding the need for and commission of the Public Art Master Plan. Following that discussion, members of City Council directed that the Public Art Master Plan be calendared for consideration via the City Council consent agenda.

June 7, 2016: The proposed Public Art Master Plan was advanced for City Council consideration and adoption. Members of City Council requested the item be scheduled for a Work Session discussion prior to being advanced for future consideration.

May 20, 2016: Informal Staff Report published to City Council that summarized the history and purpose of the Public Art Master together with the completed Public Art Master Plan, which would be advanced for adoption on Jun 7, 2016.

April 7, 2016: Public Art Committee unanimously recommended adoption of the proposed Public Art Master Plan with a vote of 7-0.
