SUBJECT
Title
Receive a report, hold a discussion and provide direction regarding the Hotel Occupancy Tax Program Year 2018 for FY 2017-18.
Body

BACKGROUND

Staff created program guidelines based on Tax Code 351.001 to guide the administration of the hotel occupancy tax program. Staff has also developed an application to assist the Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) Committee in determining an applicant's ability to meet or exceed the purpose of the program. The Committee reviewed, discussed and approved the program guidelines and application in 2003. Each April, the committee reviews the current program and makes any necessary changes to the guidelines or application before adopting it for use in the next program year.

Staff has made no changes since the program guidelines and application were previously approved on May 3, 2016.

Once the guidelines and application are approved, staff will electronically distribute them to current and past recipients, and any other interested organizations on April 24, 2017. The completed hotel occupancy tax applications will be due back to the City on May 19, 2017.

RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends the program guidelines and application be approved as written.
