SUBJECT
Title
Consider adoption of an ordinance of the City of Denton authorizing the City Manager or his designee to execute a contract for the acquisition of one 170 cubic foot hopper tracked Trommel for use in the City of Denton Solid Waste Department's Building Materials Recovery (BMR) operation; and providing an effective date (RFP 6212-awarded to McCourt and Sons Equipment, Inc. in the not-to-exceed amount of $363,264). The Public Utilities Board recommends approval (5-0).
Body
RFP INFORMATION
This item is a fleet addition that was approved in the Fiscal Year 2016-2017 budget. It will be used for the separation of materials in the Building Materials Recovery (BMR) operation at the City of Denton landfill in order to improve efficiency. Currently all materials go through a picking station for employees to manually sort the different materials that are collected at the BMR. With the introduction of the trommel, all material will be run through the machine and smaller materials will automatically be diverted to be used for cover material. Therefore, a reduced volume of items will be sent through the picking station. This will allow the operation to sort more material in a shorter amount of time.
Request for Proposals (RFP) 6212 for Landfill Mining Equipment was awarded by Council on February 21, 2017. Item#2 of the RFP, a 170 cubic foot Hopper Tracked Trommel, was awarded to McCourt and Sons Equipment, Inc. One (1) Trommel for the landfill mining operation was awarded at that time. This addition was not included to distinguish clearly that this purchase is for the Building Materials Recovery operation at the landfill. The RFP allows for multiple purchases of line items during the contract period.
RECOMMENDATION
Award the purchase of one (1) Trommel to McCourt & Sons Equipment, Inc. in the amount not-to-exceed $363,264.
