SUBJECT
Title
Receive a report, hold a discussion, and appoint or reappoint Downtown Task Force members.
Body

BACKGROUND
In 2004, Downtown was identified as one of four priority areas by the Economic Development Partnership Board (EDPB), and the Downtown Task Force (DTF) subcommittee of the Board was formed to serve as an advisory group on Downtown development and redevelopment. The Task Force is made up of a cross section of citizens with interest in the continued health and well-being of downtown Denton, including merchants, building owners, investors, residents, UNT, TWU, churches, historians, arts, Denton County, Denton Main Street Association, and financial institutions. DTF deals with topics such as development of the Downtown Implementation Plan, parking, landscaping, traffic lights, and overseeing the Downtown Reinvestment Grant Program.

The EDPB appoints and reappoints members to DTF, and the DTF members select a chair. The DTF historically has been chaired or co-chaired by an EDPB member who is responsible for reporting back to EDPB on the discussions and actions of the DTF. Long-serving DTF Chair Marty Rivers will be moving off DTF, which means DTF will need to elect a new chair at its next meeting.

RECOMMENDATION
Appoint/reappoint the attached 2017 slate of DTF members.

STRATEGIC PLAN RELATIONSHIP
The City of Denton's Strategic Plan is an action-oriented road map that will help the City achieve its vision. The foundation for the plan is the five long-term Key Focus Areas (KFA): Organizational Excellence; Public Infrastructure; Economic Development; Safe, Livable, and Family-Friendly Community; and Sustainability and Environmental Stewardship. While individual items may support multiple KFAs, this specific City Council agenda item contributes most directly to the following KFA and goal:
